In chapter 36 of Bruce Chatwin's book In Patagonia, he writes of a priest named Manuel Palacios and his stories of the Yoshil, sort of simular to that of the priest you mention: Manuel Jesús Molina (1905-1979) Wonder if these men were contemporaries or the same person even. The timeline seems correct, Chatwin's book was published in 1977 and the priest he spoke with was said to have little time left because of cancer.
